Bar

Modern equivalent

100,000 Pascals

A non-SI metric unit widely used in high-pressure systems, roughly equivalent to atmospheric pressure.

Because 1 bar is very close to 1 standard atmosphere, it became a favoured unit in meteorology, engineering, and pneumatics for expressing high-pressure values without cumbersome numbers.
