Blood-Tub
Modern equivalent
35 Litres (Cask)
The smallest traditional cask in the cooperage, historically favoured for small experimental whisky ageing batches.
Due to its miniature volume, a blood-tub offers an extremely high wood-to-liquid ratio. This accelerates the interaction between the spirit and the oak char, allowing experimental batches or new distillates to mature and pick up flavours remarkably fast compared to standard-sized barrels.
