Martinmas

Modern equivalent

November 11th

A traditional Scottish legal term day marking the conclusion of the agricultural year on November 11th.

Marking the Feast of St. Martin, Martinmas closed out the harvest cycle. It served as the final major Scottish term day of the year, heavily relied upon for settling winter rents, closing farm labourer contracts, and paying annual dues.
