Nibble

Modern equivalent

4 bits

A four-bit computing unit (half a byte) coined to represent a single hexadecimal digit.

Playing nicely on computer terminology ("byte" and "nibble"), this four-bit grouping neatly encapsulates values from 0 to 15, matching single hexadecimal characters perfectly.
